G is for George Clinton and God Forbid

George Clinton is a musician, singer and songwriter, he was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on July 22, (1941-). Most known for his band Parliament- Funkadelic, he was definitely a man who was ahead of his time but oh so right for the time. His ecletic sense of style and he and his band's fusion of funk, psychedelic guitar sounds went on to make them shoot to super stardom and become world renowned. Clinton in my opinion exudes rock n roll by his persona; when you look at him you see a guy with wild and crazy colorful hair, an odd but awesomely put together outfits standout from the crowd
The Parliaments start out as a "Doo-wop" singing quintet in Plainfield, New Jersey during the 1950s where Clinton was raised. In the 1960s he moved to Detroit, Michigan to work at Motown as songwriter, the band members stayed behind in New Jersey but continued to perform together despite their being in two different cities. Clinton went on to obtain a record deal with Revilot Records and recorded his first single titled "I Just Wanna, Testify" in 1967 which became an instant hit that shot to the No. 3 spot on the Billboard R &B charts. Because the record company that Clinton was signed to went bankrupt the group had to change their name to Funkadelic, eventually Clinton got the name Parliament back, thus the group becoming Parliament Funkadelic.
They reached mainstream success; recording over forty R&B hit singles, with three of their albums going platinum during the 70s. Clinton ran into legal troubles again during the early 80s which lead to him having to rename his band yet again. He signed to Capitol records as George Clinton and the P.Funk All-Stars in 1982. Despite all of the legal troubles, George Clinton and his band retained their success and went on to have their work sampled many times by popular rappers in the 90s. He and his band went on to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. George Clinton and The Parliament Funkadelic continue to tour and make music, in fact they are touring this month. Check out there website below for their upcoming tour dates to see if they will be coming to your neck of the woods.

God Forbid is an American death metal band, formed in East Brunswick, New Jersey in 1996. The band was only active from 1996 until 2013.
They released their first album in 1999 titled "Reject the Sickeness" which slowly gained the band followers. Their album gained them the attention they needed to be signed to Century Media Records and in 2001 they released their second album "Determination", they continued to build a mass fan base and went on to play at MTV2's Headbangers Ball tour as well as other well known tours. In 2007 they won an Independent Music Award for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Song for their single "To the Fallen Hero"The band continued to release successful albums and continued to tour. In 2009, Dallas Coyle left the band and was replaced by Kris Norris, who in turn also left and was replaced by Matt Wicklund.
